We will take the liberty to assume that at this point, you’re fairly tensed. You are even considering talking to your partner and telling him/her that you cannot write your own vows. Before you start worrying, know that we, the Crystal Ballroom team, are here to help you overcome your writer’s block.
Here are some tips that will help you write the perfect wedding vows for your wedding ceremony.
Many people will ask you to read other’s wedding vows or consult a book, but before all of this, what you should be doing is spending some time alone and reflecting on your relationship. You’re marrying the person that you love the most, give yourself some time to process it. Ever since you get the ring, chances are that the rest of the days were in a blurry. From congratulatory calls to spa treatments, you were swamped in wedding preparations. All of this may not have allowed you to sit down and reflect on this big phase of your life.
Once you have decided that you’ll write your wedding vows, tell your partner about your plan. Chances are that your partner will also take an interest in writing their wedding vows. Discuss the tone of your vows and how you’d like to go about it. Do you want to add a funny story or do you want to keep it as formal as it can get? What will be your partner’s reaction if you make one of the vows a bit humorous? Decide on all of these things before lifting the pen to write your vows.
You don’t have to nail your wedding vows at your first try. Begin with writing about what this person means to you and how do you see him/her and what are their qualities that you love the most. Mention all the details: when was the time you realized that you were in love and what so special about this person that you want to spend your whole life together. Use a story or a memorable event to talk about your love life. Write fearlessly and don’t think about the vows getting too long. You’ll have time to edit.
Now is the time to talk about what you’re going to promise your partner. Define clearly and lay out what it is that you’re promising. You can come up with as many promises as you want: from promising to stand by them through thick and turn to let them play online game for a day straight, you can be both romantic and funny (this is important to blink away those tears). You can take help from books and movies, but be careful and don’t let published words overshadow yours.
